Planning a Glamping Trip Near Yorkshire: Where to Stay & What to Do

Planning a glamping trip to Yorkshire, but don't quite know where to start? Luckily for you, we at Newlands know a thing or two about creating the perfect trip to the region. So, whether you're a couple, family, or on your solo travels, this guide is for you.

We'll take you through the ultimate checklist (spoiler—you don't need much for glamping!), the perfect location, activities for all to enjoy, and the best places to eat.

Oh, and we've even thrown in a few bonus tips as locals ourselves. Let's get into it.

In Short…

  • The Yorkshire region is full of incredible glamping opportunities, but staying just outside the Dales offers more space, fewer crowds, and great access to top spots.
  • From village visits and waterfall walks to cheese factories, underground adventures, and dog-friendly pubs, there’s no shortage of activities for every kind of glamping break..
  • Yorkshire is a foodie’s dream, with traditional pubs, artisan cafés, Michelin-starred dining, and local farm shops worth exploring..
  • To make the most of your stay, pack for unpredictable weather, venture off the beaten path, and don’t forget to look up – many areas are brilliant for stargazing.

Decide on Your Location for Glamping Near Yorkshire

Deciding on your location for a trip to Yorkshire can be difficult because there are so many authentic, diverse, and exciting places to choose from.

Are you looking for somewhere close to the dales, the coast, or a quaint village, perhaps even the moors?

Each is a great choice and allows you to be in the midst of the region, but you will be met with competitive prices and busy crowds.

So what's our recommendation?

Well, as glamping connoisseurs, there's nowhere we'd recommend more than Newlands Farm Stables.

Situated just half an hour outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park, close to the historic market town of Kendal (in Cumbria), is the perfect base for your trip to the northern region, away from crowds and high prices.

Transport links from Kendal are exceptional; it really is a fantastic hub, and driving to the dales from our location is easy.

So, if you want to experience luxury glamping in a quaint countryside farm, our location will be perfect for you.

Find & Book Your Yorkshire Glamping Accommodation

The next step is booking your glamping accommodation, and it's a good job you're thinking about it now, because booking in advance is essential.

If you're planning your Yorkshire trip for the summer (as most do), sites can be booked up extremely fast, so to avoid disappointment, reserve your accommodation at least a few months before.

Then you need to think about what means of accommodation you'd like to stay in. Glamping is usually a mix of yurts, lodges, pods, and bell tents, but we have something special here at Newlands.

We offer a selection of barns and stables to elevate your glamping experience. They include everything you need for a relaxing stay, while you enjoy all the countryside has to offer.

Our converted barns are our most premium option. They include two bedrooms (Bracken Barn has a separate pod if you have more guests), a fully equipped kitchenette, a living area, and a private bathroom.

You'll also have access to a large outdoor terrace with a dining area and BBQ. And if that wasn't enough, you'll also have access to the communal pizza oven, various BBQs, fire pits, and seating on site.

Our stables are slightly more basic, but they still have everything you need to enjoy a comfortable stay. You'll find a triple bunk bed and sofa bed, a kitchenette, and bathroom, with access to a private terrace and all communal areas onsite.

Experiencing glamping at Newlands is unlike any other, and we can guarantee you'll have the most memorable stay.

Plan Your Activities for Your Yorkshire Glamping Trip

Activities are what make glamping breaks to Yorkshire so special and memorable, so making sure you do everything you want is essential.

There are plenty of things to do in the Dales, by the coast, and on the moors, but if you're not local, you won't know all the must-see spots. That's why we've put together the list below to help you decide what you want to do and see on your visit.

Here are our recommendations.

For Families

If you're travelling with the whole clan, you need to find activities suited to a lot of different tastes, without fearing the dreaded "Can we go homeeee yetttt?"

But luckily, it's easy to find activities everyone will enjoy in Yorkshire, including kids, teens, adults, and grandparents.

Whether you're looking for simple fun or an adventurous day out, here are some ideas for your itinerary:

  • Trek the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail: Wander around the unspoilt surroundings of mesmerising waterfalls. An opportunity to spot wildlife, learn about geological features, and spend time with the family.
  • Explore the White Scar Cave: As the longest show cave in Britain, this fascinating trip will take you into the cave, which has underground waterfalls, prehistoric pools, and an uncountable number of stalactites! Perfect for children and adults seeking adventure.

For Couples

If you're on a romantic getaway looking for some inspo but don't quite know all the Yorkshire hidden gems, stop here because we've got some ideas for you.

Whether you enjoy spending relaxing, quality time together, or you're an active couple who love to get outdoors, Yorkshire has something for you. Here's our recommendations:

  • Admire Malham Cove: Spend the day walking through the famed Malham Cove. Whether you’re a Harry Potter couple or not, you’ll have a memorable day out.
  • Stroll through the town of Settle: Trek through the historical market town of Settle and enjoy a romantic day of indulging in independent shops, galleries, pubs, and cafes.
  • Date night in North Yorkshire Villages: Visit stunning villages like Clapham and Austwick for sunset walks, candlelit pub dinners, and sweet dog walks.

For Solo Glampers

If you're exploring Yorkshire solo, you'll want to make sure you've got plenty of activities to do.

After all, sometimes taking in the sights on your own is more peaceful and meaningful than when you're with a big group.

At least you get to do exactly what you like.

Here's our recommendations for those solo glampers out there:

  • Explore the old town of Dent: Known for its cobbled, narrow streets and ancient church, Dent is the perfect village for those looking for peace in the dales. Find an art gallery, a blacksmith's, and plenty of delicious eateries.
  • Tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge: Over a long day, you could attempt the famous three peaks, filling your senses with breathtaking nature and accomplishing something incredible. Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough will make your trip memorable.
  • Visit Ribblehead Viaduct: A must-see tourist attraction for anyone visiting Yorkshire. Take in the gorgeous scenery, dabble in some photography, and enjoy the calmness of early morning sunrises if you can wake up for them!

For Pet Owners

Taking your pet somewhere like Yorkshire will create an unforgettable trip for them and you as pet parents, but that doesn't mean it's always easy to find places accommodating to our furry friends.

Luckily, Yorkshire happens to be a seriously dog-friendly place, and many locals are dog-obsessed, so don't worry—you're in good hands.

Here are our recommendations:

  • Trek on dog-friendly trails and parks in the dales: Places like Lancliffe Park, Giggleswick, and Aysgarth Falls offer scenic, pup-friendly routes. There are plenty of trails around the dales; just ensure you know the Countryside Code!
  • Discover pup-friendly pubs in the dales: Enjoy a cold beverage while your pup enjoys a cold bowl of water in establishments like the Game Cock Inn and the Talbot Arms.

Get Some Ideas for Places to Eat In & Around Yorkshire

Yorkshire is home to hundreds of authentic, cosy pubs, artisan cafes, and high-end restaurants, and even though you're glamping, you're going to want to try a few out.

While we know how to make a mean Yorkshire pudding, there are plenty of other opinions on the menu that aren't to be missed in this foodie region.

So, here are a few of our top recommendations:

  • Elaine’s Tearooms: Homemade cakes, hearty breakfasts, top-tier lunches, and excellent brews. Super popular with walkers.
  • The Courtyard Dairy: A specialist cheese shop with a café serving toasties, cheese boards, and fresh coffee the proper Yorkshire way.
  • The Traddock: Fine dining in an elegant country house, showcasing Yorkshire’s best seasonal produce. Perfect for celebrations and occasions.
  • The Wensleydale Creamery, Hawes: A must-visit location for any cheese lover. Perfect for casual dining, cheeseboards aplenty, and yummy local dishes.

Extra Tips From Yorkshire Locals: How to Make the Most of Your Trip

As fellow Yorkshire locals, we know the lay of the land better than anyone, which is why we think there are a few extra things you should know before you head out on your glamping trip.

We're proud of where we're from and want everyone to have the best possible time when they come to the region.

So, without further ado, here are our top tips to make the most of your trip:

  • Pack for all seasons, daily: Yorkshire weather can’t make up its mind. Waterproofs and sun cream are both essential on a day out, because nothing ruins a trip quite like soggy clothes and sunburn.
  • Go beyond the touristy trails: Everyone heads to Malham or Scarborough, but there are quieter gems like Gunnerside, Stainforth Force, or Cautley Spout. Check out our blog post on our top hidden gems in Yorkshire, or ask us for recommendations when you get to the site!
  • Stock up at local farm shops: Support local and eat better, it’s a win-win. Most people like to cook for themselves while glamping, but heading to your nearest Tesco is the worst thing you can do. Make the most of delicious local produce. You won't find fresher ingredients.
  • Don't underestimate driving times: Your destination might look close on the map, but moorland roads can be slow and scenic. This isn't always a bad thing, because it gives you a chance to take in the area, but you should always allow extra time when heading to rural locations.
  • Look up, you’re in a Dark Sky Reserve: Parts of the Dales are incredible for stargazing. Bring a blanket and lie back under the stars. The Milky Way is often visible on clear nights.
  • Don’t expect hotel-style luxury – that’s the charm: Glamping still has elements of camping. While you'll have a comfy bed, fresh towels, and your own toilet, you'll still be amongst the countryside (and midges), so embrace it and make the most of your city/town detox.
